1. Accepting these terms

By downloading or using Vela, you agree to these terms and our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Vela. You must be at least 16 to use Vela; if you're under 18, use it with a parent or guardian's consent.

2. Vela is not medical care

Vela is a self-help companion for emotional wellbeing. It is not a medical device, does not provide medical or psychological diagnosis, treatment, or advice, and is not a substitute for care from a licensed professional. Vela is not designed for emergencies or crises, including situations involving risk of harm to yourself or others. If you are in crisis, stop using the app and contact your local emergency number or a crisis line immediately. Never disregard professional advice because of something Vela said.

3. AI-generated responses

Vela's conversations are generated by artificial intelligence. They can be wrong, incomplete, or a poor fit for your situation. Use your own judgment, and treat Vela's suggestions as support for reflection — not instructions.

4. Your content is yours

Everything you write or say in Vela — journal entries, check-ins, conversations — remains yours. We claim no ownership and take only the minimal license needed to operate the app. We don't use your content for advertising or sell it to anyone.

5. Acceptable use

Don't use Vela to harm others or yourself, to probe or disrupt our systems, or to build a competing dataset. We may suspend access that abuses the service.

6. Subscriptions

Vela's core support is free. Optional paid features are billed through the App Store or Google Play under their terms; subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled in your store settings, and refunds follow the store's policies. Prices may change with notice before your next renewal. SOS will never be behind a paywall.

7. Our app

The Vela app, name, flame mark, and design are ours and protected by intellectual property law. We grant you a personal, non-transferable license to use the app on your devices.

8. Disclaimers & liability

Vela is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent allowed by law, Vela and its team are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of (or inability to use) the app, and our total liability is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the last 12 months or $50. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limitations, so parts of this may not apply to you.

9. Ending, changes, and disputes

You can stop using Vela any time; deleting the app deletes on-device data. We may update these terms — if the change is material, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect. These terms are governed by the laws of our place of incorporation (to be stated at launch), and disputes will be resolved in its courts unless your local law gives you additional rights.
